Evaluation of myocardial fibrosis with cardiac magnetic resonance contrast-enhanced t1 mapping in adults patients with aortic stenosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Development of diffuse myocardial fibrosis in aortic stenosis (AS) has been associated with an adverse prognosis. Measurement of extracellular volume (ECV) from T1 mapping contrast magnetic resonance (CMR), has been recently validated as a non-invasive method for assessment of such diffuse myocardial fibrosis. Our objective was to evaluate the functional consequences of diffuse myocardial fibrosis, measured by T1-ECV in patients with AS, on systolic and diastolic left ventricular function by transthoracic echocardiography (TEE) and CMR.

Pre- and post-contrast T1 mapping for detection of myocardial fibrosis in severe aortic stenosis before and after aortic valve replacement
Background Severe aortic stenosis (AS) leads to diffuse fibrosis in the myocardium, which could cause poor clinical outcome. Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) with recently T1 mapping is a promising technique to identify diffuse myocardial fibrosis. The Objective of the present study was to assess myocardial fibrosis by CMR using T1 mapping in patients with surgical AS and evaluate the ev...
متن کاملHistological Validation of measurement of diffuse interstitial myocardial fibrosis by myocardial extravascular volume fraction from Modified Look-Locker imaging (MOLLI) T1 mapping at 3 T
BACKGROUND Gadolinium (Gd) Extracellular volume fraction (ECV) by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) has been proposed as a non-invasive method for assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis. Yet only few studies used 3 T CMR to measure ECV, and the accuracy of ECV measurements at 3 T has not been established. Therefore the aims of the present study were to validate measurement of ECV by MO...
متن کاملHuman non-contrast T1 values and correlation with histology in diffuse fibrosis
BACKGROUND Aortic stenosis (AS) leads to diffuse fibrosis in the myocardium, which is linked to adverse outcome. Myocardial T1 values change with tissue composition. OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis that our recently developed non-contrast cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) T1 mapping sequence could identify myocardial fibrosis without contrast agent. DESIGN, SETTING AND PATIENTS A prospectiv...
متن کاملSevere aortic stenosis has blunted myocardial T1 relaxation response to vasodilator stress: a cardiac magnetic resonance adenosine stress test study
Background Aortic stenosis is characterized by impaired myocardial perfusion reserve due to coronary microvascular dysfunction. T1 mapping is sensitive to myocardial water content of both intraand extracellular in origin, but the effect of intravascular compartment changes on T1 has never been assessed previously. We aimed to assess the effect of adenosine-induced vasodilatation on native (pre-...
متن کاملCharacterization of myocardium and myocardial motion in patients considered for transaortic valve implantation (TAVI)
Background Aortic valve stenosis (AS) is a common disease. In older patients open chest valve replacement is limited due a high periprocedural risk. Therefore transaortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become a potential alternative treatment. AS causes alterations of cardiac rotation and torsion and triggers diastolic dysfunction. A poorer prognosis was observed in the presence of myocardial fi...
